If you are thinking of exploring the province of Treviso, you can choose to stay either downtown or in the outskirts. The city obviously offers more comfort, but on the other hand you lose the true spirit of the life in the Marca (such is called the Treviso province). Here are 5 suggestions.

Hotel Alla Torre – Residenza d’Epoca

Piazzetta Trento e Trieste 7 Castelfranco Veneto, tel. +390423498707

Nestled in the city walls of Castelfranco Veneto, next to the Clock Tower, the Hotel Alla Torre is a niche in art, history and comfort, ideal for both short and long stays. The staff, always praised by its guests, gives that little extra to make a good experience, a unique experience. If you want to breathe even more a medieval air, ask for a room with the  original brick of the city walls. Hotel Alla Torre is located in the centre of the Castelfranco Veneto, so that you can reach shops, bars and restaurants in walking distance. The train station is particularly convenient, if you plan day trips without driving. With just a few Euros you can reach Treviso, Cittadella, Padua and Venice.

The Hotel Villa Cipriani since then has distinguished not only for its fascinating structure, but also for the impeccable service offered to its guests and for the magnificent view that you can enjoy from the terrace. A swimming pool just below the restaurant allows you to spend some relaxing afternoons giving a view that can wander down to the lagoon of Venice. An overnight within these walls is an unforgettable experience. The parking lot is on the other side of the road, just book it in advance.

Relais Dolce Vista

Strada Masare 4 Valdobbiadene, tel. +390423900408

On the hills and vineyards of Prosecco peeps the Relais Dolcevista, a typical Venetian farmhouse, completely restored and transformed into an exclusive B&B . It has 6 rooms named according to 6 different wine varieties. As soon as you step into your room, you’ll notice its link with the Prosecco, as your welcome will be given by a complementary bottle of Prosecco. If you stay in the area, you certainly need a car to drive around, but with day trips you can visit many place across the province. The breakfast is simple but tasty, and in summer you can use the small outdoor swimming pool.

Next to the slopes of the Montello hill, the Agriturismo Morgan is the ideal place to make a base for a visit of the Marca. It has very specious either single or double rooms, with a very good value. Agriturismo Col delle Rane

Via Mercato Vecchio 18 Caerano di S.Marco, tel. +390423857004

In a completely restored farm house of 18th century the Agriturismo Col delle Rane welcomes its guests with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It has either rooms or apartments, as well as an outdoor swimming pool based on a natural water recycling system, where you can cool off after the hot summer days. The healthy and plentiful breakfast is homemade with the products of their organic farm. They also have bikes that you can borrow for free and and enjoy a ride out of town.

From the Montebelluna train station you can reach Venice, Padua and Belluno. If you decide to go to Venice by train, remember that once in Treviso you have to wait   for the coincidence. For this reason, I suggest driving up to the station of Treviso and from there heading off to Venice by train as there are more trains and you can stay in Venice longer.

The Abbazia di S.Eustacchio was founded in Nervesa della Battaglia in the eleventh century by the Earl Rambaldo III of Collalto and his mother Gisla. In 1500 it became a cultural centre of great prestige, so that here Monsignor Giovanni della Scala composed the famous “Il Galateo: the Rules of Polite Behavior.”

The Big War marked the life of the Abbazia, so that during the Battle of the Solstice it was completely destroyed and now only the ruins are left. Intentionally it was never rebuilt to witness the fierce fighting that took place on the Montello hill. The few remaining ruins were restored in early 2000 and often in the summer they host concerts that take advantage of the picturesque background of these elegant ruins.

Treviso is a city to be discovered, without striking monuments, it offers incomparable places, views and experiences to be lived in complete relax. To experience Treviso at its most, I suggest overnighting in a B & B as it assures more freedom and at the same time you have a direct contact with the host that can be a good guide for advice. The B&B Design 19, Borgo Cavour 19, tel. +390422419145 , is in a building of 18th century, it has 4 bedrooms and on request you can use the kitchen for even more independence. Extremely advised for the kindness of Marta as well as for the convenient location. If you prefer a hotel Il Focolare, Piazza Ancilotto 4 , tel. +39042256601 , is a very welcoming small hotel in the heart of Treviso, just behind Piazza dei Signori, from the rooms on the top floor you can enjoy a unique view over the alleys in the Pescheria neighbourhood.

in senso orario: Ca' dei Carraresi - Duomo - Chiesa S.Nicolo' -Chiesa S.Francesco

Right clockwise: Ca’ dei Carraresi – Duomo – Chiesa S.Nicolo’ -Chiesa S.Francesco

Let’s start this trip around Treviso, for sure don’t miss the three churches: the Dom with Tiziano’s fresco in the chapel Malchiostro, the Church of S. Nicolo’, and Church S. Francesco where Dante’s son and Petrarca’s daughter are buried. Explore the exhibitions program at Ca’ dei Carraresi, Via Palestro, 33/35 , tel. +39 0422 513150, and just around the corner you reach one of the most suggestive areas of Treviso: the Pescheria area. Browse here through the alleys interrupted from time to time by the Cagnani (such are called the little channels in dialect) of the Botteniga river and enjoy the small shops.

in senso orario: antica pasticceria nascimben, stegano dassie gelatiiere,

right clockwise: antica pasticceria nascimben, stefano dassie gelatiere, da gigia, ai nanetti, da trevisi, ai filodrammatici

The food is the expression of a culture, so what a better way to discover Treviso through its food? Recently, the Antica Pasticceria Nascimben, Via Luzzati 15, tel. +390422210311, reopened its doors just outside the city walls, try the typical Pazientina cake and Tiramisu’ of Treviso. Whereas for a good ice cream that comes “with a smile” you should definitely pay a visit to Stefano Dassie, Via Calmaggiore 60. The osterie (taverns) are the heart of Treviso, always haunts of Trevisani. Stop by for some fingerfood (called Cicchetti), the classic accompaniment of a glass of spritz or an ombra (glass of wine in the local dialect) or for a full meal. Among the most characteristics: da Gigia, Via Barberia 20, to taste the mozzarella in a carriage with or without anchovies, dai Nanetti, Viale Broli 2, for the hand-cut mortadella and home-made bread, da Trevisi, Viale Trevisi, tel. +390422545308, offers a relaxing atmosphere and fresh cicchetti, by Marco the owner big fan of rugby. Da Arman, Via Manzoni 27, tel. +390422547747, da Muscoli, Via Pescheria 23, tel. +390422583390, where you can try the sandwich Prosecco, da Toni del Spin, via Inferiore 7, tel. +390422543829, ai Filodrammatici, Via Filodrammatici 5, tel. +390422580011, where you can taste the typical venetian cuisine. The best fish is served at the Osteria Butterfly, Via Manzoni 46, tel. +39042256179, go there even for an aperitif and have some finger food fish.

in senso orario

Right clockwise: villa tiepolo passi, oasi cervara, restera

Do you want to take a trip in the outskirts of the city? Jump on your bike and in 4km  (by clicking here you will find a map to reach it) you reach Villa Tiepolo Passi, via Brigata Marche 24 – Carbonera, tel. +390422397790. Sundays they serve the brunch in the villa and you can join the guided tour. Discover the Sile river on foot or by bike along the Restera, a path that starts just outside the city walls in Via Alzaia. Better going during the week, since Sundays could be particularly crowded. If you arrive to Silea, stop by the Osteria da Nea, via Alzaia sul Sile 22 – Silea, tel. +390422360210, for the traditional tasty fried fish and a glass of prosecco. Along the Restera you can rent small electric boats at Barchiamo, Riviera Santa Margherita, tel. +393459358622, to plow the Sile river and admire it from a different point of view. In Quinto di Treviso there is the Oasi Naturale Mulino Cervara, Via Cornarotta 50 – Quinto di Treviso, tel. +39042223815, a beautiful nature reserve for the protection of the swamp.

For evening entertainment Il Teatro del Pane, Via Fontane 91-91/A – Villorba, tel. +390422318311, just outside the city, offers a wide program of theater plays and live music by bringing together performers with the audience before the performance. The Home Rock Bar, Via Fonderia 73 , tel. +390422697086, is another good destination for live music in town. Visit the Fondazione Benetton Studi e Ricerche, Via Cornarotta 7-9, tel. +3904225121, which in addition to being in a wonderful place, often hosts exhibitions and events in the evenings.
